The winter wonderland of Filzmoos.

We certainly have our fill of snow

The winter wonderland of Filzmoos

It’s not just summer that has plenty to offer in Filzmoos. In fact, our little gem is perhaps even better known for its guaranteed snow and its idyllic winter setting.

The unique location of our small winter sports resort in the heart of the Salzburg region, but above all the absolute guarantee of snow, are what set Filzmoos apart in winter. Nestled on a sunny high plateau at around 1,000 metres above sea level, our winter paradise lies directly beneath the Bischofshofsmütze, which towers majestically over Filzmoos in the immediate vicinity.

Our winter hotspot impresses less through sheer size and more through quality: the ski area is compact, family-friendly and pleasantly quiet – ideal for those seeking a leisurely experience rather than the hustle and bustle. Anyone looking for perfect piste conditions will find everything they could wish for here, thanks to the excellent natural snow conditions.

A skiing holiday at its very best!

20 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes await you in the small but excellent, family-friendly ski resort of Filzmoos. To the south, right next to the aparthotel, the Roßbrand awaits you at an altitude of 1,600 metres, whilst to the north the Großberg stands ready as a sunny haven. From easy terrain for beginners through to red and black runs, there is something for every skier and snowboarder. The picturesque mountain village offers everything that passionate skiers and snowboarders could wish for. Yet Filzmoos is more than just an ordinary ski destination. Come and experience it for yourself!

Fun for the whole family

An absolute highlight for the whole family. An idyllic horse-drawn carriage ride through the snow-covered landscape of Filzmoos is something truly special. The snorting of the horses in the cold air, guests wrapped in warm blankets – this is how we set off with our coachmen to the mountain pastures, where local delicacies await.

Romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides

Even from a distance, the soft jingle of bells heralds the arrival, long before the steaming horses come into view between the trees. Horse-drawn sleigh rides have a long tradition in Filzmoos – over 20 teams of Noriker, Friesian and Haflinger horses are in use here. Starting from the village centre, the rides take place in sleighs of various sizes through the winter landscape up to the mountain pastures, where guests are treated to regional specialities from the Pongau cuisine.

An indescribable feeling of freedom!

A real highlight is hot-air ballooning in Filzmoos. The moment of take-off, those first few minutes just above the ground – an indescribable feeling that simply has to be experienced. Gliding weightlessly through the air and marvelling at the world from above. The little mountain village we are lucky enough to call home is a paradise for all hot-air balloon enthusiasts.

Filzmoos Balloon Weeks

Every January, the Filzmoos Hot Air Balloon Weeks take place. Here, balloonists demonstrate their skills in three individual competitions and the Nations Cup. Every day, around 45 balloons from all over the world take off from the Hammerwiese; a winners’ ceremony with a festive presentation of wonderful prizes on Filzmoos village square marks the fitting conclusion to the Balloon Weeks.

Night of the Balloons

The Night of the Balloons in Filzmoos is an atmospheric winter highlight, during which the snow-covered landscape transforms into a sea of glowing colours. Several hot-air balloons are inflated simultaneously in the evening and made to ‘glow’ in time to the music – their flames bathe the village in a magical atmosphere against the backdrop of the Bischofsmütze. Accompanied by music and a winter atmosphere, a unique experience is created that delights visitors and locals alike.
